Busy, Busy times over the last 2 months

Yes the club has been extremely busy during December and January.

Firstly we held our Christmas Social on Wednesday 15th December in Ferring Village Hall. It was a happy, sociable evening and included a fairly testing Christmas Quiz, but we all enjoyed the challenge. Our Social Secretary brought along a lovely varied buffet selection from a local supermarket, that was enjoyed by all. This was followed by a non-competitive set of easy Dingbats – that gave us a light-hearted end to the evening.

Sunday 16th January saw 9 SDFM members attend the much delayed 2021 Sussex Film Festival at Wivelsfield Village Hall, introduced by competition officer Jonathan Wilde (left). We watched all 19 competition entries together with 3 extra films which had won SERIACs 2020 and 2021 and the Sussex FF in 2020. All these festivals had been held virtually, so this was the first opportunity to see the films live on the big screen. SDFM entries were the 5-minute documentary ‘Tide of Light’ and the 1-minute comedy ‘Well Connected’. Additionally Howard Johnson has submitted 2 films in his own right and Irina Pitman had entered her 9-minute travelogue ‘Moscow Metro 2018’. And didn’t she do well, winning the Best Travelogue festival award for this film. Congratulations Irina, and thanks also must go to Joy Prosser for the delicious refreshments provided throughout the afternoon.

And finally on 19th January we held our club Christmas Film Competition. 4 members’ entries were submitted with subjects varying from the art of Wassailing (see pic), to Christmas illuminations at Wakehurst Place and RHS Gardens Wisley, to hot sunny Christmas days in South Africa, to cello music on the mountains of Switzerland. The secret audience vote threw up 3 of the 4 films tying for first place! So presumably the winners will only be able to hold the trophy for only 4 months each!
