Ferring Cup and ‘Hot Shorts’ club film competition

Wednesday 5 February 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

The most popular and sought after competition this side of Ferring. Dust down those old shorts of yours, or preferably make some new ones, and turn them into gold for one night only.

A quick summary of the rules for internal competitions:

1.   Competitions are open to all Club Members and Associate Members.

2.   All entries must be accompanied by a competition form obtained from the Competition Secretary (Howard Johnson covering the role at present) and to be completed identifying Title/format/duration/aspect ratio and the leader requirements. (see 6-7 below)

3.   All films must be handed to the Competition Secretary at least TWO WEEKS prior to the competition in the desired format to allow suitable time for pre-judging if required.

4.   There is no restriction on the number of entries per person except in those competitions where it is explicitly stated.

5.   Fewer than 3 films submitted does not constitute a competition and consequently the competition will be waived and the films may either be shown but not judged or held over to a later competition of your choice.

6.   Films may be submitted in the following formats : DVD or Blu-Ray or Memory Stick.  Other formats may be accepted as and when they become available and subject to projection.  Ideally, all entries should be backed up by an alternative format on the night in case of equipment malfunction.

7.   Films need a 10 second black leader, preferably a ‘countdown leader’. This can be obtained from a Committee Member if required. DVDs and Blu-Rays should either be menu driven or contain an optional countdown leader to assist with projection. Films starting immediately without menu run the risk of missing opening sequences and will not be rerun on the night.

8.   Films must be no longer than 15 minutes, MAXIMUM, from opening to closing shot including title and credits.

9.   Films longer than 15 minutes cannot be entered in competitions but may be shown on Members Film evenings when the Competition Secretary will require at least one weeks’ notice of the film title and duration, etc., to facilitate programme scheduling.

10.   It is the responsibly of the film maker to abide by the above rules and ensure their entry and source media is free from quality imperfections and drop outs. Films will only be accepted at the discretion of the Competition Secretary.

11. All winning films entered into Competitions will be archived.
