Well done Howard! Kind Regards, Judith and Chris.      What a successful festival South Downs Film Makers enjoyed on the 9th October.. Ten club members were at Wivelsfield Village Hall to see a much improved programme of films.      The club was awarded a Highly Commended Certificate for our entry “Brotherly Love”, and won The One Minute Trophy for “Mutual Satisfaction”.  Congratulations to everyone working on these productions.      The real winner was our very own Howard Johnson who was awarded The Travelogue Trophy for his film “Land of the Schuttig”.  He also won The Pathfinders Sound Trophy for “Fat Elvis”.  However, his greatest achievement was to win The Sussex Challenge Cup, for the best film of the festival for “Land of the Schuttig”.  Many many congratulations to Howard on winning these awards.      South Downs members also won three of the raffle prizes.  I felt that the standard of the films shown was better than last year overall.  It was good to see so many entries from young people.  Their brains obviously work differently to ours, but their imagination knows on bounds and bodes well for the future of amateur film making.             Fred Clarke The Club won 4 trophies and 5 certificates. We all enjoyed this film with its mix of old documents, photos and cine together with modern video showing the model 'Excelsior' in action. The story had a beginning, middle and end with good shots of the model railway all nicely put together by good editing technique. The commentary was clear and we thought the Welsh music suitable, with the levels of voice, music, effects and live sound being well balanced, except for one burst of music and the opening fanfare which started rather loudly and this can make the operator reach for the volume control. This video definitely has replay value and we note that it has also been uploaded to YouTube if anyone wants to see it again.
