On Wednesday 2nd October Alan Cross gave us a fascinating presentation on all things writing for films.
His presentation included slides and film clips and covered the construction of a story, Log Lines (their construction and use) and screenplay writing. Alan broke down a screenplay and illustrated it with clips from the film ‘Gladiator’ featuring Russell Crowe, and followed this by a screenplay re-writing incorporating a number of elements discussed in the presentation.
After our refreshment break, Alan moved onto colour and how it influences the viewers perception of the scene. He illustrated the colour palettes which were used in different feature films. Finally Alan finished by showing us how he colour grades his film scenes using DaVinci Resolve.
